While Sony seems to be making every effort to keep the PlayStation 4 firmly in the thoughts of the world, Microsoft is doing the exact opposite with the Xbox 720 and keeping almost everything totally under wraps. We’ve already experienced the rather bizarre PS4 unveiling that was distinctly lacking the console itself, suggesting that Sony is in something of a hurry to show us what it has up its sleeve.
Microsoft, by contrast, seems to be taking its Xbox 720 roadmap in its stride.
Of course, silence breeds rumor-mongering to the highest extent and the Xbox 720 is by far one of the most talked-about and speculated devices of recent history. And as far as the latest projection goes – we’re now hearing the supremely ‘juicy’ bit of gossip that the Xbox 720 will feature controllers that are pretty much identical to those of the Xbox 360, though will sport a striped design.
Exciting stuff, we know.
Technically speaking the former rumor is exactly as would be expected as for Microsoft to deviate wildly from the Xbox 360 controller the world already loves would be to take a massive and frankly unnecessary risk. It’s a simple case of not fixing what isn’t broken – the Xbox 720 controller really doesn’t have to change much to pack a punch.
And as far as the stripes go, we’re not looking at anything that will actually influence the console’s gaming prowess or performance as a whole, so frankly this has to rank right down there with the most uninspiring rumors scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Kudos to Microsoft though for keeping us all guessing.
We’re likely to see an Xbox 720 and a PlayStation 4 release date well in advance of the Christmas buying frenzy, so technically speaking there isn’t that much longer to wait for all the answers.
