The unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 is likely to be one of the hottest commodities on the market this Black Friday and over the holiday period to follow – mercifully it has just become an altogether cheaper commodity too.
Until now, the unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 free from all contractual obligations has been on the market for $750, which has now slid to $695 before shipping. Not a monumental reduction of course, but this is expected to continue falling over the weeks/months to come as third-party retailers compete for the lion’s share of the action over Black Friday and Christmas.
By contrast, the cheapest unlocked iPhone 5 on the market is still selling for around $850 or more, with higher-spec versions blazing past the $1,200 mark. Rumor has it that the official Apple Store will begin selling unlocked 16GB iPhone 5s for $649 in the near future, though this has yet to be confirmed by Apple.
According to industry experts, the motivation behind the rather early price reductions of the unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is plain and simple competition ahead of the lucrative Black Friday rush. Along with staples the likes of the iPhone 5 to keep up with, the Galaxy Note 2 is also likely to face stiff competition from the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phones – both tipped for big things this Christmas.
In addition, Verizon Wireless has indirectly (or accidentally) confirmed that the HTC Droid DNA release date will be announced at its event tomorrow evening – another 5-inch Tabphone with incredible specs and features to rival the Galaxy Note 2.
And if that wasn’t enough, rumor also has it that another high-end Tabphone is destined to hit the market in the very near future in the form of the Sony Yuga – another 5-inch display-packing, quad-core device with its sights set on the top-spots.
