It’s been a long time since the rumor mill had such a confusing device to contend with as the as-yet unannounced Motorola X Phone…aka the Motorola Nexus X. True, it’s pretty much a certainty that Motorola will be throwing out something big later this year, but with regard to what, when, how, with whom and for how much remains, we’re still pretty clueless.
In fact, none have so far been able to clarify whether it will arrive as the Motorola X Phone, the Nexus X or something completely bereft of any ‘X’ references.
When Google first took the helm at Motorola last year, we were promised that its new acquisition would not in fact get any preferential treatment when it came to future Android device and OS releases. However, this has conflicted quite extensively with new reports ding the round right now which claim that Google has indeed been investing massive and long-term efforts into the next Motorola Smartphone, which is destined to launch in the summer and serve as a one-of-a-kind game-changer.
…a game-changer that could give the likes of Samsung and HTC a run for their money – something some would call preferential treatment for Motorola to say the least.
With regard to specs and features, nothing concrete has emerged as of yet but Motorola did previously state its interest in stronger, more durable and water-resistant Smartphones with 24-hour+ battery life. Not particularly game changing, but it could come to pass that the Motorola X Phone hits the market as the very first device in the world to sport Android Key Lime Pie, which would certainly qualify as changing the game…albeit temporarily.
There’s still a huge question mark above the whole Nexus aspect of the new Motorola Smartphone release, as not only has Google reiterated its stance NOT to make Motorola its only candidate for Nexus products, but more recently stated that the acquisition as a whole was motivated mostly for gaining patents.
As such, game-changing or otherwise, the Motorola Nexus X / X Phone is shaping up to be one of the most interesting release dates to watch out for in years.
