As expected, the Sony Xperia Z Vs iPhone 5 comparisons have kicked off and are already in full swing.
Every time a new device launches from any manufacturer, you can bet your bottom dollar that Apple’s iPhone will be used as the official yardstick by which to measure its value and appeal. However, the one thing we’ve learned is that all the specs and features on paper in the world don’t necessarily add up to a winning recipe.
So, how is the Sony Xperia Z looking to fare against the undisputed heavyweight of the Smartphone world, after recently taking the Best in Show Award at the 2013 Mobile World Congress?
Well, take raw power into consideration and both the processor and RAM of the Sony Xperia Z have the upper hand over the iPhone 5 in a big way. There’s also no disputing that way in hich the 13-megapixel camera of the Xperia Z runs circles around the 8-megapixel shooter of the iPhone 5. Up-front, the Xperia Z features a 5-inch screen packing 440ppi pixel density, which frankly makes the 326ppi of the iPhone 5 look a little rubbish.
And if gimmicks fit the bill better than the obvious, the Sony Xperia Z also happens to be waterproof – as in genuinely waterproof enough to use in the bath, as I’m sure you’ve always wanted to.
So that’s it, right? A complete and total whitewash that signals the end of the iPhone’s reign and a new front-runner?
The one thing that the iPhone 5 features that at least for now trumps everything the Xperia Z can throw at it is nothing more or less than the Apple badge. Sony’s impact on the Smartphone world is so far below that of Apple that regardless of which device cuts the mustard on paper, the iPhone has always strode to victory by sheer reputation alone.
So, which of the two really is the better?
It depends if you’re more on the market for raw power or bragging rights, but if you ask us it’s beginning to reach a point where bragging rights should and might just be afforded to those shunning the obvious market-leaders and giving the likes of Sony a go.
