Preorders for the Sony Xperia Z Tablet have officially opened in the UK, penciled in for an eventual release date next month. Having already raised the bar across much of the world with the kind of specs and features the iPad can only dream of, the UK launch of the Xperia Z Tablet adds another string to Sony’s bow on its increasingly rapid climb to the top of the mobile-tech table.
Currently slated to launch with Wi-Fi only, the 16GB version of the Xperia Z Tablet will go on sale for £399 and the 32GB version for £449 – both slightly higher than their US equivalents. There has also been a page set up for the 4G LTE version of the Xperia Z Tablet, though the cellular version has yet to be confirmed in terms of both release dates and its price.
According to Sony, the first shipments will arrive with preorder consumers between April 12th and 15th.
Ever since its first outing at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Sony Xperia Z Tablet has caused the world’s tech community to think twice about Sony’s place in the pecking order. Along with the stunning Xperia Z Smartphone, Sony’s latest product line quite frankly took most of us by surprise with the kind of specs, features and general desirability that’s so far been lacking from its core mobile products.
As far as the Xperia Z Tablet goes, the core rundown includes a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core, 8-megapixel camera, a 6,000mAh battery and Android Jelly Bean running the show. And just like the Xperia Z Smartphone, it also happens to be dust and water-proof, not to mention incredibly slim at just 6.9m, thick.
Sony has well and truly moved the goalposts this time around and the Xperia Z looks well on its way to being one of the true game-changers of 2013.
