You’ve got to love the Motorola X Phone – the very dictionary definition of a Smartphone which by rights doesn’t exist yet but has already been pieced together inside and out by the rumor mill. And assuming they’re even 50% on the money as far as their spec and feature projections go, we’re looking at a pretty impressive powerhouse.
This time around, reports are flying around the web suggesting that the Motorola X Phone will launch with a sapphire glass front – the same material used by Vertu in the production of its $10,000 Android Pose-Phone. But is isn’t all about looking the part or bragging right…sapphire glass is tough as hell and can withstand the kind of punishment that would see an iPhone pretty much vaporized.
Now, we’d previously heard from Motorola executives that the company was making concerted efforts to create Smartphones that weren’t prone to going “splat” when dropped or knocked, which seems to add huge credence to this particular rumor. On the other hand, sapphire glass is one of the most expensive materials on the market right now for such purposes, which means that the Motorola X Phone will cost a fortune, or Motorola has somehow managed to make sapphire glass for cheap, or than the rumor as a whole is the usual steaming serving of garbage.
We do however hope it isn’t the latter…
Meanwhile, there’s still plenty of debate as to whether the Motorola X Phone will or won’t launch as the Nexus X as a collaboration with Google, which would seem an obvious assumption given the way in which the two are attached at the hip. If it does, chances are it will feature Android Key Lime Pie right out of the box and a world of other exclusive goodies, not to mention a superbly low unlocked price of less than $400 all-in.
