Well you’ve got to hand it to LG when it comes to making lemonade from Samsung’s lemons – turns out the Samsung Galaxy S4 isn’t the only ‘4’ capturing the public’s eye in Times Square. Just a few hours ahead of what’s set to be perhaps the biggest Android device launch of the year, LG had chosen to remind the world that the buck doesn’t start and stop with the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Or to put it in their own words, the “LG Optimus G is here 4 you now” and “It’ll take more than 4 to equal one LG Optimus G.”
In all honesty, both of these slogans are about as cheesy as it gets and the chances of either taking any real attention away from Samsung’s Galaxy S4 are of course minimal. That being said, despite the rather tongue-in-cheek nature of the campaign it nonetheless reinforces the fact that Smartphone manufacturers in growing numbers are proving unwilling to lie down and play dead at the beckon call of Samsung…the current global market-leader.
You also have to wonder whether the pokes at Samsung in the name of the LG Optimus G come as a result of LG knowing something we don’t about the S4’s specs and features, or maybe the company’s simply in something of a blind panic and worried its top-tier lines are about to be wiped off the face of the Earth.
In any case, the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch drive kicks off tonight in New York City at 7pm local time and looks set to answer about a thousand questions and put infinite rumors to rest once and for all.
And chances are if the rumor mill was on the money with specs and features, LG and every other Samsung rival across the board has just cause to be quite frankly terrified.
