2013 is shaping up to be the year of plastic fantastic as rumors has it that the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date will bring us yet another top-tier polycarbonate Smartphone. Should gossip pan out, the S4 could very well be joined by an equally plastic iPhone 5S later this summer – one of the most hotly anticipated and debated Smartphones of recent history.
You might argue it’s what’s inside that counts, but in an industry where stunning alloys and aluminum have become largely standard for the highest-end Smartphones, the use of plastic is beginning to look nothing more than cheap. True, the iPhone 5S might get away with it if said cheapness is all in the interest of keeping end price-tags down, but the chances of the Galaxy S4 launching for anything less than a suitably premium price are pretty much zero.
And as if this wasn’t bad enough, there are still thousands the world over casting aspersions on recent bench-test listings and making adamant claims that the Galaxy S4 will launch with a quad-core processor – not the Exynos 5 octa-core processor millions are banking on.
If it turns out therefore that we’re looking at a Samsung Galaxy S4 destined to launch with a plastic body and a quad-core processor, questions will undoubtedly be asked as to how much the ante has been upped in the nine-months since the S3. Does the Galaxy S4 justify its flagship status, or are we looking at the iPhone 4S of the Samsung world…the Galaxy S3S, if you will?
In any case at least there isn’t much longer to wait for the details, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 along with its specs, features and release date confirmation is expected to be announced at the company’s high-profile press event in New York City next week on March 14th.
It’s time once again to see just how reliable the trusty rumor mill can be…or quite to the contrary, as is often the case.
