Could we be seeing an iPad Mini 2 or Mini S release date early next year?
When Apple introduced the Retina, it immediately became the expected standard for all upcoming iOS products across the board. However, the iPad Mini arrived as a notable exception to the new Retina standard and didn’t exactly go down well with those expecting a truly astonishing display panel for the mini-tab.
Well, it appears that Apple may be well on course to making up for their shortcomings the first time around, as industry chatter from the Far East has given rise to second-generation iPad Mini release date rumors for the first half of 2013.
Be it an iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 2, the “New” iPad Mini or whatever Apple decides to call it.
According to the report published this week by Digitimes, Apple is to revamp the iPad Mini with the focus being put squarely on increasingly the resolution of the screen, citing sources from the company’s supply chain. This is however where the notion begins and ends at present, with no further details of the specs, features or eventual release date penciled in for the iPad Mini 2.
The new stirrings certainly add further momentum to existing gossip that a new 2,048 by 1,536 pixel panel is in the pipeline for a future Apple product, as hinted by a previous report. In addition, the fact that the iPad Mini currently exists as a rather gaping hole in Apple’s Retina standard future doesn’t exactly give the min-tab any points of credit against its rivals.
Apps and programs for iOS are in larger now being developed primarily or exclusively for use with Retina panels.
Perhaps worse still, rival brands are throwing out rival tablet PCs left, right and center which boast the kind of pixel density Apple calls “Retina” quality and in some cases considerably higher. Or to put it another way, the Google Nexus 10 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD have well and truly stolen Apple’s thunder in a big way – and for a way cheaper price.
