Use Google Glass and become a real man…or woman…the rather bizarre cry of one Mr. Sergey Brin making his latest address on the future path of Google, namely the company’s Project Glass headset.
For those not yet familiar with the concept, Google Glass is for all intents and purposes a wearable Smartphone masquerading as a pair of futuristic glasses. Admittedly Google Glass can do a myriad of things a Smartphone can’t…or so we’re told…but for want of a better definition it really is a replacement for your Smartphone that you wear on your face.
A delightful concept, I know.
Of course, Brin and plenty of other Google execs have so far not had the easiest time drilling home the concept of Google Glass as a winner, therefore have turned to increasingly creative and at times outlandish marketing gimmicks and statements. And as far as this week’s goes, Brin has decided to educate the world during a recent address to the fact that using a mobile phone is apparently “emasculating”.
He was apparently referring to the way in which people are prone to slumped postures and generally improper stances/body language when using mobile phones – clearly global problems of epidemic proportion that Google Glass will solve. The thing is, his comments not only seem to overlook the 99.9% of us that don’t look like Quasimodo when we’re talking on the phone, but also the fact that 99.999% of Google’s mobile business centers around Android Smartphones.
So what he’s telling us is that we should begin a mass exodus from the billions of Android Smartphones all over the world that are ruining our posture and “emasculating” us, right?
I mean come on – we know Google needs to pull out all the stops to get the message across the Google Glass is a winner, but at far as misfires go this ranks right up there with Microsoft telling us the Surface Pro had sold out.
Or in other words…pull the other one, it’s got bells on it!
