Brace yourself for the apparently premium plastic Samsung Galaxy S4 release date…?
Really…when was the last time you heard the words ‘plastic’ and ‘premium’ used in the same sentence without at least a dusting of sarcasm? Well, the answer for plenty of us is now Tuesday of this week as one company executive has gone on record to not only confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be another plastic-clothed Smartphone, but to tell the world how apt and premium said plastic is.
Speaking to CNET, Y.H Lee stated that the materials used in the body of the Samsung Galaxy S3 would be carried over to the Galaxy S4 as a means by which to balance efficiency of manufacturing with the ongoing demand for products with a premium feel. Cast your mind back about nine months however and when the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S3 release date finally rolled around there was largely just a single gripe highlighted by new owners and critics alike – it felt a bit on the cheap side.
Thousands pointed out that despite being one of the most impressive and powerful devices on the face of the Earth, it’s lightweight feel and plastic exterior delivered anything but a premium impression.
As such, it looks like we’re in for the same again – a premium feel therefore not really coming into the equation.
All of this will no doubt kick-off the debate as to why exactly Samsung has really chose such a path for the Samsung Galaxy S4, as the public is by no means crying out for top-tier devices that look and feel cheap. It could be that they’ve every intention of dropping the price for the Galaxy S4 this time around, or maybe Samsung wants to make sure they’re able to produce and deliver tens of millions of the things with ease – thus avoiding backlogs.
On the other hand, it may all be about boosting profits and going for a decidedly cheaper option for personal gain.
Whatever the reason, a plastic Samsung Galaxy S4 somehow seems like a huge step in the wrong direction when aluminum composite bodies and futuristic Liquidmetal have pretty much stolen the world’s imagination.
Then again, a bargain price could make the decision a forgivable one…we’ll have to wait and see!
