Long-time RIM-lovers in the UK are getting at the breaks at the moment, having not only got their hands on the revolutionary BlackBerry Z10 first but now also knowing they’ve got first dibs on the QWERTY keyboard Q10 as well. And while an exact release date has yet to be pinpointed, the UK’s O2 carrier has announced that it will be the first to launch the Q10 which will hit the market sometime in May.
We just have to hope that this time around the US release date for the Q10 won’t follow quite as far behind as the Z10 launch did!
The price for the BlackBerry Q10 hasn’t yet been revealed in terms of the on-contract variety, but we do know that those looking for the freedom of the unlocked Q10 will be looking at a relatively lofty £530 for the privilege – exactly $800 at the time of writing.
As far as specs and features go, the BlackBerry Q10 is in the eyes of many the first true BlackBerry to emerge since the Canadian company lost its footing quite some time ago – the touchscreen Z10 being in many respects as far from a traditional BlackBerry as it gets.
Sporting a full physical QWERTY keyboard, the Q10 revives the traditional BlackBerry experience with the brand-new BB10 OS and a stack of impressive goodies under the hood. Along with its keyboard and 3.1-inch touchscreen, the Q10 also sports a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel digital camera, Micro SD card slot and a pretty lofty 2.100mAh battery.
At last count, the BlackBerry Z10 had chalked up at least a million unit sales since its launch and if current hype is anything to go by, the decidedly old-school BlackBerry Z10 is set for even greater success.
Here’s hoping that those of us not lucky enough to live in O2’s reach will see the Q10 before July, which technically is anyone’s guess right now.
