Nokia is to bring an all-new dynamic to its Windows Phone 8 Lumia Smartphone range, by adding highly-revered 41-megapixel Pureview camera technology to its next wave of product releases, according to industry sources claiming familiarity with Nokia’s 2013 roadmap.
If authentic, the source has confirmed that the new Nokia Lumia Smartphone will go be the name of the Nokia EOS and has been earmarked for a US release date this coming summer.
When Nokia announced the launch of the new-generation Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 flagship, there was a somewhat collective sigh of disappointment that the 41-megapixel Pureview sensor was notably absent from the party. The stunning 41-megapixel sensor from Nokia made its grand debut at the 2012 Mobile World Congress and was largely expected to begin appearing on Nokia’s high-end Smartphones as standard, though to date its availability has been scarce to say the least.
Despite giving the impression that the camera itself has been designed and launched to create truly enormous digital photographs, the primary purpose of the mind-blowing 41-megapixel sensor is in fact to take much clearer and higher-quality photographs in less-than ideal lighting conditions. The sensor is used to oversample the image and reduce noise to the highest possible extent, which in fact means that the actual picture size of standard Pureview images is more like 5-megapixels.
As far of the Nokia Lumia 920 goes, no 41-megapixeld sensor was lavished upon the Windows Phone 8 flag-flyer, but Nokia insists that the “Floating Sense” lens the 920 boats is still an excellent capable and unique feature.
2013 is expected to be a year in which genuine innovation and exclusive features take pride of place over raw power and prestige in the Smartphone world. As such, it will no longer be a case of the biggest screens and fastest processors that curry the most favor, but rather the specs and features that in one way or another break the mold – the 41-megapixel Pureview lens certainly seeming to qualify.
Nokia is yet to confirm or deny the rumors and no official details or release dates have yet been revealed.
