First the bad new – chances of LG confirming the Optimus G2 release date at this year’s Mobile World Congress are about as good as those of a dodo or two showing up. As for the good news – chances are we’ll find the void filled reasonable well by the unveiling of a new LG Tabphone hybrid device, sporting a superb full HD 1080p touchscreen measuring in at 5.5-inches.
It seems LG has no intention of letting the Tabphone market slip by – one that’s already becoming one of the most ferociously competitive in consumer tech history.
Of course, we’d all been hoping that the LG Optimus G2 release date would have in fact been announced at the Las Vegas CES last month, having bought-into a world of rumors that turned out to be pure fiction. However, as is the case with most top-end Smartphone brands LG appeared to have its sights set on a grander stage for such a significant device launch, meaning that the Optimus G2 would of course be landing at MWC 2013…right?
After all, even LG confirmed that several new high-profile devices were coming in the near future…despite being unwilling to narrow this down for us.
Sadly…depending on how you look at it…the latest round of reports suggests that the LG Optimus 2 will in fact not be taking center-stage for the brand later this month, but has instead been earmarked for the originally expected fall release date – which by rights makes far more sense.
Instead, the Korean media has told us to prepare for the arrival of a new 5.5-inch 1080p LG Tabphone, which will be looking to take on the likes of the HTC Droid DNA and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The Tabphone market is exploding by the day and LG has itself launched a couple of combatants before now – chances are however it’s latest/upcoming entry will be like nothing we’ve seen to date.
That’s as far as the insights go for now unfortunately so feel free to draw up your own fantasy wish-list of specs and features.
