There has been much talk over recent months about a perhaps deliberately delayed Grand Theft Auto 5 release date in order for the title to coincide with the eventual PlayStation 4 launch. The news was met with both joy and despair as while those already counting the days to the PS4 release date celebrated the coming of GTA 5 to the platform, others intent on buying the game for the PS3 and Xbox 360 were furious at being made to hold out even longer.
Well, it’s now looking like all of the above was no more than the usual gossip-mongering as while industry analysts have stated that GTA 5 will indeed launch for PS4, it will not be available upon the console’s release date.
Something of a bittersweet revelation that isn’t of immediate excitement for anyone.
Chances are that Rockstar Games really isn’t in any rush to bring Grand Theft Auto 5 to the table for the simple reason that as far as video game franchises go, there are few on Earth that are as guaranteed to break perhaps every record in the book.
Technically speaking a staggered launch could work out the most beneficial in terms of sales as chances are die-hard fans will not only make a beeline for their local store when the GTA 5 release date rolls around, but may also shell out for an enhanced PS4 version a few months later.
Sony recently lifted the lid on the PlayStation 4’s specs and features, though fell short of confirming its release date, price tag or offering any suggestion of what it might look like. Nevertheless, a pre-Christmas launch is 100% guaranteed which will see the PS4 taking on the as-yet unannounced Xbox 720.
