Most of the world is very much caught up in PlayStation 4 release date hype, but behind the scenes Microsoft is also readying what could easily become the console of the decade so far – the mighty Xbox 720. And while we’ve yet to hear a single word uttered about the Xbox 720’s specs and features directly from the horse’s mouth, it’s pretty much a given that Microsoft will be pushing the console’s content delivery features as its primary pulls.
This week has seen Microsoft unveil what it set to be the first movie to be launched exclusively for Xbox users – an independent title that will only be available to Xbox 360 owners and buyers of the new console following its eventual launch. Initially brought to like by the BBC in the UK, the movie known as “Pulp” can now be accessed via the Xbox live system and is notably more expensive than most independent titles you’ll likely come across.
While Sony has to some extent lifted the lid on the PlayStation 4…sort of…Microsoft has remained mum on the status of the Xbox 720 across the board. However, it is largely expected that both consoles will launch essentially side by side prior to the Christmas buying frenzy, most likely in the month of October.
In the meantime, those looking to fill the void or dip their toe for the first time are being offered various Xbox 360 deals with lower prices, as the industry prepares for the onslaught of the 720. Retailers across the nation are upping the ante in terms of bang for buck, in a move that will not only help clear excess inventory but also help increase hype ahead of concrete confirmation of the fabled Xbox 720’s existence.
