Here’s the most boring and uninspiring iPhone 5S rumor of recent weeks – apparently the device will indeed launch this summer and boast almost identical specs and features to those of the existing iPhone 5…albeit with a faster CPU and better camera.
The news comes courtesy of iMore having cited sources apparently confirming what are fast becoming the worst fears of many – that we’re in for another tepid revamp of an existing iPhone and pretty much nothing whatsoever to get excited about.
You really have to ask yourself – if all of the above rings true, will Apple get away with it this time around?
Face it…on the specs and features front iPhone has been playing catch-up with Android for quite some time now. In terms of raw-power, screen size, resolution, battery life, camera quality and most other key selling-points, the iPhone 5 is nowhere near the top of the table.
And if the iPhone 5S release date brings us an iPhone 5 that’s just a bit faster and sports a better camera, it will enter the market already behind various new-generation Smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One and to a large extent the Sony Xperia Z.
Sure, the Apple badge counts for a lot but if they really do try and throw out another dull and lifeless update for the same top-tier price, I for one predict a mass exodus to Android and significant shift in market-share for the year.
To be honest…they’d probably be safer to keep us waiting for the iPhone 6 than try blowing us away with something damp.
Meanwhile, the iPad 5 on the other hand is looking at least a fraction more exciting as Apple has apparently gone back to the drawing board and redesigned pretty much the whole thing. What we’ll be looking at come launch date is an iPad 5 that looks a lot like the iPad Mini, only slightly stretched out in all directions.
So to summarize – one killer and one filler. Yawn.
