Hold onto your seats ladies and gentleman – there’s another iPhone release date rumor doing the rounds and it’s a biggie…literally! Outlandish as it may appear to some, word on the street is that Apple is looking to well and truly get on the Tabphone bandwagon with the launch of its very first Smartphone-Tablet hybrid, which would mean an iPhone close to the size of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
This isn’t the first time the notion has been uttered, but this time around the iPhone Tabphone rumor has been joined by a few market projections that add serious momentum to the idea. Over the course of the next three years or so, Tabphone sales are expected to skyrocket and increase by 105%, hitting up to 230 million annual sales and largely dominating the Smartphone market.
Month after month, Smartphones are being used less for one-handed talking and texting, instead being counted of for media consumption, GPS navigation and playing high-end games. As such, an iPhone 6 that hits the market in Tabphone form could be exactly what’s needed to keep the iPhone fresh, current and appealing in the face of such enormous competition.
The Samsung Galaxy Note and Note proved beyond all reasonable doubt that the market for the Tabphone is huge…and getting bigger by the day. Others like the HTC Butterfly and Sony Xperia Z have joined the affray and mad headlines of their own, making now the idea time for Apple to jump right to the front of the pack with a massive 5-inch+ iPhone 6.
Reports are generally pointing to this coming June as the most likely release date for the first of this year’s iPhones, though we’re also told another will be coming along in October. As such, the first release date will most likely be that of the rumored iPhone 5S, while the biggest launch of the year for Apple by way of the iPhone 6 will no doubt follow in the fall.
A 5-to-6-invch iPhone 6 would once have sounded patently ridiculous – but then again, so too did the iPad Mini at one stage.
