There’s never a dull moment at Apple and the release of the iPhone 5 was no exception. The initial sales of the iPhone 5 will have pleased Apple as well as the analysts out there that predicted Apple would not be able to manufacture the popular handset as fast as people wanted to buy it. And we all know that analysts like to be right. There has however, been something of a sea change in the sales of the iPhone 5.
After selling an astonishing 5,000,000 devices in just the first weekend of sales, the number of iPhone 5 units selling at the moment seems to be dropping at an alarming rate.
Many people (including analysts) seem to think this has a lot to do with the upcoming release of the iPhone 5S. In keeping with Apple’s traditions, this will likely be a remodelled iPhone 5 with a number of improvements to the specification; it is highly unlikely to be a new design. Why would a consumer go out and purchase an iPhone 5 when they can wait a little while longer and purchase the newer version of the model?
In other Apple news, there are lots of rumors flying around regarding the potential release of a ‘cheaper’ iPhone. Thought to be made entirely of fantastic plastic to save on costs, it is through that you could have one of your own for around three hundred bucks. This may well help Apple to extend its range of products into the lower income bracket consumers as up until now, Apple has been sitting pretty at the top pf the price scale when it comes to smartphones.
Other whispers abound about some kind of iWatch. Apple are also not the only manufacturer rumored to be working on such a device.
There are plenty of images on the web of an alleged ‘smartwatch’ from rival company Samsung too. As always it is very hard to determine which of these images is actually genuine, if any. There are some very IT savvy fans out there who take great joy in watching the tech gossip sites go off the scale in direct response to one of their mock-ups.
These images could also simply be items from the cutting room floor – ideas and projects that never got the green light. Only time will tell it seems.
