Is it almost time already for the iPad 4 to lose its crown?
Apple’s iPad release dates and frankly those of most iOS products have been all over the place as of late, throwing expected 12-month refresh cycles into disarray. They’ve even been criticized by various circles for their recent habit of throwing out slightly-revamped device release dates far too often to give any device – and therefore its buyer – sufficient time to revel in superiority.
Well, it certainly looks like they’ve no intention of changing their business model anytime soon as if Macotakara is to be believed, the iPad 5 is right on course for a March 2013 release date.
Or the ‘Newer’ iPad…or the iPad Mini Maxi…or the iPad 4S/X…take your pick!
Citing an industry source claiming familiarity with the project, the iPad 5 will be taking one or two leaves from the book of the iPad Mini – design-wise at least. According to the report published by the highly-popular Japanese technology blog, the iPad 5 will be 2mm thinner, 4mm shorter and 17mm less wide than the iPad 4.
Rather than a slightly slimmed-down version of the standard iPad, it is suggested that the iPad 5 will arrive as a larger version of the iPad Mini.
Of course, with no official word to go on it is once again advisable to digest that reports with a sizeable pinch of salt, though it has to be said that this kind of subtle though effective redesign is exactly what it takes to send the Apple-devoted consumer masses into a frenzy.
Meanwhile, rumors are gathering steam by the day of an iPad Mini 2 in the pipeline, which according to various sources from the Far East will land in Q2 as the Retina display-toting iPad Mini we’d been expecting in the first place.
…and Lord knows how much Apple will be charging for that little beauty.
