2013 Mobile World Congress is just a couple of weeks away now and tends to be the primary annual platform upon which most of the more pressing product release dates are announced. However, it seems that a certain Taiwanese firm just wasn’t able to control its excitement and has thus jumped the gun – HTC has confirmed that the HTC M7 Superphone will be officially unveiled on February 19th, meaning a release date could follow before MWC 2013 even opens its doors!
HTC has a stead tradition of using the annual MWC event to showcase its latest and greatest creations to an enormous audience from all over the world. Last year, the HTC One series that would come to redefine the company’s high-end Smartphone efforts took center stage at MWC, though it would appear that this year’s entry is far too good to share the spotlight with the rest of the rabble – or so HTC seems to think.
Of course, HTC is still vying for a good deal of secrecy at this time and has thus not confirmed exactly what the NYC event will include or which device it will focus on. However, the rumor-mill has in this instance been pretty on the ball for quite some time and you can bet your bottom dollar that the HTC M7 will make its grand debut and have its al-important release date at last pinned down.
The HTC M7 is expected to pack the kind of specs and features required to challenge the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the iPhone 6, the Motorola X Phone and the LG Optimus G2 for the 2013 crown. Design-wise it is likely to look very similar to the HTC 8X Windows Phone, though with massively upgraded internal specs including a quad-core processor, at least 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera.
One rumor that can however now be written off is that of the HTC M7 arriving with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie – Google’s next OS isn’t expected to land until the company’s I/O event in May.
