Ahead of next year’s long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 5 release date, Rockstar Games has graced us with a brand-new wave of screenshots from the undoubtedly epic title. In addition to showing the three new characters destined to wreak havoc when GTA 5 arrives, the screenshots also depict cars, bikes, helicopters, views from skyscrapers and the trademark “VineWood” sign.
While the full plotline for GTA 5 won’t be made clear until it is released early next year, we know that the three playable characters – an ex-gangster, a repo man and a redneck – are all closely linked and cross paths in a big way.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is already available for preorder on the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, with an official release date yet to be announced for the early stages of next year.
According to Rockstar Games, GTA 5 takes every single mechanic and concept present in the previous installments to an entirley new level. In addition, the playable area in GTA 5 will be bigger than those of GTA: Sand Andreas, GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption combined. Along with the usual enormous cityscapes, Grand Theft Auto 5 will also include numerous beaches, areas of wilderness, mountains, suburbs and a military base.
Players will be able to switch between the three main characters as they go along, allowing the three to work together to complete tasks. And while any of the three characters is being controlled, the other two will be going about their business across the GTA 5 map with the game’s super AI engine. Each will have his own unique hobbies, interests and pastimes, while clothing can be customized in thousands of different ways.
And just to add a little more fun/vulgarity to the proceedings, players will now be able to flip the bird at anyone they seem fit at any time, provoking dozens of different reactions depending on the recipient and the circumstances.
