When Smartphones made their humble debut over ten years ago, the technology represented something of an optional luxury for those looking to step up their mobile communication capabilities and little more.
Who could have possibly known that the world was to soon be revolutionized at a truly astonishing pace?
As of right now, and according to recent industry data collection, the world’s Smartphone market is exploding at a faster rate than any other mass consumer technology in history. The speed at which Apple’s iPhone’s and a galaxy of Android devices are flying off the shelves has left the internet revolution of the 90’s in the dust and wiped the floor with the PC boom during the 80s.
In fact, recent figures suggest that global Smartphone adoption is happening at ten-times the pace of PC adoption a couple of decades ago.
What makes the Smartphone market so incredibly successful is the way in which in just five years the technology has spread far beyond the usual early-adoption markets in the west to hit almost every viable market the world over. In figures, the data collected suggests that a total of 640 million Android and iOS Smartphones were being used globally during July this year.
And of course, the US took the top-spot by accounting for a staggering 165 million Smartphones in use, with China following in second place with 128 million. China is however known to be the fastest growing consumer technology market in the world and at current pace will stride past the US by the end of the year. Year on year, China’s Smartphone adoption growth topped an enormous 400%.
By contrast, the UK accounted for 31 million active Smartphones while Japan came in at 22 million.
