This year’s Black Friday sales are fast approaching and several major retailers including Amazon have already kicked off the proceedings with some exceptional deals on video games covering all major consoles. Beginning today and continuing through Black Friday itself, Amazon will be offering what it is calling “Lightning” deals on some of the best titles released this year.
There will also be dozens of other top-end software titles discounted as part of the Black Friday spectacular, for which the online retailer has launched a dedicated deal page. This is probably the safest bet of all for those looking to snag a few Black Friday bargains and save a packet on Christmas presents without having to endure the stress, strain, blood and bruises of bracing the midnight crowds on the High Street.
Amazon’s Lightning Deals for Black Friday will begin today at 9:10am PST and will be available for just four hours. The retailer has so far kept quiet on exactly how the deals will work and what specifically will be on offer and for how much. We do however know that the games will be in strictly limited numbers and the deals will end early if or when the maximum quota of sales is reached.
In addition, if the products do not sell out and there are still plenty of stocks left once the deal expires, the price will nonetheless return to standard and no further discounts offered.
The news comes hot on the heels of a number of announcements from major High Street chains which have for the first time decided to open their doors during the early Thanksgiving Evening, rather than waiting until at least the stroke of midnight as usual. From Wal-Mart to Target to Toys “R” Us and more, critics and consumers groups in growing numbers have expressed concern that an even earlier start to Black Friday will do little other than transform Thanksgiving from a day of gratitude and togetherness to one of greed and materialism.
