New reports have come to light suggesting that Apple could be considering an early release date for the iPad Mini 2, which now could be with us as early as next month. The news contradicts various ongoing industry reports stating that the follow-up to the current iPad Mini was to be held back until at least October for launch.
Apple’s annual product refresh roadmap has been all over the place for the last couple of years and therefore bringing the iPad Mini 2 release date forward would really not come as the biggest surprise. In fact, given the way in which there is currently something of a void to be filled by a iOS product with the ‘oomph’ to turn heads back in Apple’s favor, an April iPad Mini 2 launch could indeed be just the ticket.
According to the folks over an iMore, Apple is still mulling over the idea of sending out the iPad Mini 2 earlier than expected and has not ruled out April as a likely month for its launch. The same report also goes on to suggest that the iPad 5 could also debut alongside its smaller sibling next month, while August has been earmarked for the highly-elusive iPhone 5S.
Several apparent image leaks and accessory listings would certainly seem to tally in with the notion of an imminent iPad and an iPad Mini refresh, as these kinds of products always start hitting the market shortly before a new device. On the other hand, all of the above must be taken with the usual grain of salt as Apple has in traditional style remained mum on the whole issue.
As far as specs and features go, the iPad Mini 2 is expected to be unchanged in appearance with a faster processors and Retina quality display, while the iPad 5 has apparently been overhauled and will look more like a larger iPad Mini than a standard iPad.
