Rumors of an Amazon Kindle Phone release date sometime in 2013 have been all but confirmed by the big man himself. While Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is still to actually utter the name of the fabled device in any way shape or form, his response when quizzed about the chances of a Kindle Phone pretty much said all that needed to be said.
“I’ll just have to ask you to stay tuned. There are a bunch of rumors. I agree that there are a bunch of rumors that we might do a phone,” giggle Bezos in a recent interview.
“You’ll just have to wait and see.”
At this stage in the game it is impossible to know exactly what Amazon has in store for the Kindle Phone or when the release date will be announced, as rumors of exactly such a project have been flying around ever since the original Kindle Fire touched down over a year ago. While there is an excellent chance we’ll see the first appearance of the Kindle Phone at one of the major mobile technology shows early next year, Amazon may also choose to showcase it alongside a new Kindle Fire closer to the fall.
In either case, Amazon has made it clear that its hardware offensive is targeting the big time and therefore a Smartphone launched to rival the likes of the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S range is beginning to seem inevitable…it is just a question of when.
If and when the Amazon Kindle Phone does join the affray, chances are it will follow the business model of the Kindle Fire to a tee. As such, we can expect a superbly powerful Smartphone right in line with those at the top end of the market, which sports an incredibly generous price tag due to its likely primary purpose as a gateway to the Amazon Store.
