Ahead of its official launch in the UK later this summer, the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD has had its price confirmed. And the even better news is that those looking to snap up the all-new 2014 GTD will only be looking at an additional outlay of £310 compared to the outgoing model – a small price to pay for an armada of improvements to power, comfort and fuel-economy.
First unveiled to the world at the Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago, the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD instantly became a firm favorite of critics across Europe and the US. The stunning hot hatch can be ordered in the UK as of right now and the price has been confirmed as £25,285 for the standard manual-transmission three-door version and £27,355 for those taking the automatic five-door DSG version.
Under the hood lies a superbly capable 2-litre TDI powerplant that’s good for 182BHP, dealing with zero to 60MPH in as little as 7.5 seconds and topping out at 142MPH. But despite even more impressive power and performance statistics that last time around, the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD also manages to deliver significantly better fuel-economy than its predecessors.
According to official estimates, the manual version 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD is good for a combined driving total of over 67MPG. The automatic version comes out more around the 63MPG mark, but this is still an astounding achievement give the performance gains.
As far as aesthetics go, most of the upgrades lavished on the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD are similar to those the new Golf GTI carries. It’s hunkered-down courtesy of sports suspension, there’s the trademark twin chrome exhaust pipes to the back, new side skirts, a new front bumper and a redesigned rear diffuser to boot. Massive new alloy wheels tie up the package on the exterior, while in the cab drivers are treated to a custom instrument panel and sports seats with tartan detailing.
The 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD is expected to launch in the US later this year with price structures yet to be confirmed.
