Now might be the time to be thinking more about bang-for-buck than just pure bang, but the 2014 Ford Fiesta offers solid reassurance that frugality need not mean outright tedium.
While it might once have been a case of younger motorists looking only at a car’s looks and/or performance and to hell with its fuel-economy, there’s no escaping the fact that budgets just aren’t stretching as far as they used to for the long-term. The result has been a wave of smaller cars aimed at a more savvy-spending younger crowd, which although right on the money in terms of the money haven’t exactly been a thrill a minute.
Then however comes the 2014 For Fiesta, which although not the first name that springs to mind when picturing dynamism and excitement has delivered a pretty good package of both for the 2014 production year. Compared to most of the segment in which it’s classified, the 2014 Fiesta ups the ante in terms of looks, performance and a touch of long-lost desirability amongst the younger crowd.
Sporting a vastly improved exterior design, plenty of new technologies and superb refinements to interior comfort, the 2014 Fiesta delivers a package that’s hard to fault. Things have also been revamped under the hood and buyers are now looking at a choice of two engine options, along with no less than four different body types.
Early reviews have also stated rather unanimously that the overall driving feel of the new Fiesta is the most fun and dynamic in years.
As far as the above mentioned engines go, the 2014 Fiesta is up for grabs with a 120BHP 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which when delivering grunt to a car of just 2,600 pounds in weight is pretty sufficient to say the least. If not enough however, those looking for a bit more spice an opt for the 2014 Fiesta St, which packs a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo engine that’s good for 197BHP.
Probably the only negative element worth pointing out is the way in which the MyFord Touch infotainment system is still far from the best of its kind on the market and could stand to be improved upon in more than a few ways.
But still, as an overall package the 2014 Ford Fiesta comes together nicely as a standout example of how to cater to the younger crowd of today without having to alienate the frugal or the fun-loving.
