The 2013 Ford Fusion is lapping up the attention it is receiving from all corners, with this week having seen the superbly-redesigned midsize presented with yet another coveted award. Adding to its growing trophy cabinet, the 2013 Ford Fusion has been named as the official Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Vehicles are put through their paces and tested by the IIHS by way of front impact safety, side impact, roof strength, head restraint safety and various others. Any car coming out with a rating of “Good” or higher can be given the prestigious award.
According to the results of the tests, the 2013 Ford Fusion performed particularly well in terms of roof strength, having been found able to withstand a force over five-times that of the total weight of the car. Ford has already described the 2013 Fusion as care of extreme safety, having fitted no less than eight airbags and advanced seatbelt technology, alongside a myriad of high-end driver safety aids.
The 2013 Ford Fusion is clearly flying the flag for its predecessor, which was also awarded the coveted Top Safety Pick Award when the previous generation model was launched. The same award has also been bestowed upon the highly popular 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, while the 2013 Nissan Altima and 2013 Honda Accord are yet to be put through their paces by the IIHS.
